GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
pulp MAG accepts submissions, through Submittable, from anyone able to send them; however, approximately 60% of the work we publish must be by KPU students.
- Submitters must complete the cover letter section of the submission process.
- The cover letter must include the submitter’s name (as they would like to see it appear in print), and a short (up to 100 words) biographical statement written in third person.
- KPU students should include their program and year of study.
- pulp MAG does not accept simultaneous submissions: if your work is being considered elsewhere, we will not consider it.
- A.I.-generated or A.I.-augmented work will not be considered in the any category.
Submissions not following guidelines will not be considered.
We pay $20 per poem, $15 per page of prose, $20 per piece of art, and $20 per new media piece.
Please note: Submissions are open to current residents of Canada only, as payment will be made out in Canadian dollars.
pulp MAG is proud to be a diverse and inclusive magazine for emerging writers and artists at KPU. We support and encourage people of every nationality, religion, colour, gender identity, ability, sexual orientation, and all overlapping identities to engage with our community and submit to pulp MAG.
pulp MAG accepts submissions of previously unpublished creative prose in English, including translations into English, in any genre and on any subject from authors living in Canada. Prose poetry is included in the Poetry submissions. We are looking for flash-fiction, nonfiction, short-stories, and excerpts from manuscripts with unique voices, strong narratives, evocative images, and fresh perspectives that make you reconsider mundane.
- Submissions must not exceed 1 piece of up to 5000 words, or 2 pieces of up to 1500 words each.
- Each submission must be an individual attachment titled “Author’s Name, Title of Work.”
- Submissions must be typed in Times New Roman, 12pt font, double-spaced, with standard 1” margins.
- We reserve the right to reformat titles.
- Short comics (8 pages or less) can be submitted into the Visual Art OR Prose forms.
As a magazine dedicated to the inclusion of writers of every identity, we also ask that if you are writing about identities outside of your own experience, to please do so with the utmost care and sensitivity, and to ask yourself why you want to tell this story. pulp MAG buys first North American serial print rights. Copyright reverts to the author after publication. Subsequent publications in anthologies or collections must acknowledge the first appearance in pulp MAG.
POETRY SUBMISSIONS pulp MAG accepts submissions of previously unpublished poetry in English, including translations into English, on any subject and in any form. Prose poetry is included in the poetry category. We are looking for poetry that shows personality, is experimental, plays with form and language, and that offers a unique perspective on everything and/or anything. We also love prose poetry.
- Submissions must not exceed 5 poems, or a total of 5000 words.
- Each poem must be included in an individual attachment, titled “Poet’s Name, Title of Work.”
- The page number and poet’s name must appear at the top of each page.
- Poems must be formatted exactly how you would like to see them appear in print.
- Poems must be submitted in document format.
- Submissions of visual or concrete poetry must also include a PDF of each visual or concrete poem.
- We reserve the right to reformat titles.

pulp MAG accepts submissions of previously unpublished Visual Art from artists living in Canada, including but not limited to: drawings, paintings, photography, digital works, fabric, fashion, mixed media, performance, or ceramic and sculptural works. We are looking to publish avant-garde work with well-thought-out concepts with some personal, social/cultural, political, or historical references.
- Submissions must be Raw or TIFF files of at least 300dpi.
- Each submission should be sent as individual files titled “Artist’s Name, Title of Work,” and must include: Title, medium, size, and year of completion.
- Each submission should be visually interesting to look at, engaging with the viewer, and carefully implementing the Principles and Elements of Design.
- Let us know if you would like us to consider a piece or pieces for the magazine cover image.
