Submit your poetry, visual art, literature, graphic lit, and video/audio works (We will consider short films, spoken performance, music, animation, dance, 3D installations, and performance art) to pulp MAG. We are proud to accept work from Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) students as well as the general community.

Please see our website for detailed, genre-specific submission guidelines, as well as a rubric on what we are looking for in the submitted work and what we will be basing our publication selections on. Please also read through our past issues to get a sense of our magazine and what we like to publish. 

In the cover letter, please write a short biographical statement (no more than 100 words), which will be published in the magazine if your work is chosen.

If you are a KPU student, please also let us know your program and year of study (if applicable) and provide us with your student email address in the document alongside the bio. Approximately 60% of the work chosen for publication will be by KPU students to remain a touchstone in our school's literary and arts community.

POETRY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We will consider up to 5 poems per submission. All poems should be sent in the same document, with each poem on a separate page. Each submission should be titled “Author’s Name, Poetry Submission.” The author’s name and page number should appear at the top of each page.

Poems should be formatted exactly as you would like to see them in print.

We reserve the right to reformat titles.


If selected for publication, we pay $20 per poem chosen.

PROSE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES


Each submission should be an individual attachment titled “Author’s Name, Title of Work.” The author’s name and page number should appear at the top of each page. We do not accept pdf format. 

Also, as a magazine dedicated to inclusion of writers and readers of every identity, we ask that if you are writing about identities outside of your own experience, to please do so with the utmost care and sensitivity, and to ask yourself why you want to tell this story.

We will consider all genres of well-written, well-edited prose pieces of 5000 words or less, or 2 pieces of 1500 words or less. Submissions should be typed in Times New Roman, 12pt font with standard 1” margins. Each submission should be an individual attachment titled “Author’s Name, Title of Work.” The author’s name and page number should appear at the top of each page.


If selected for publication, we pay $15 per page of prose.

ART SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Please submit high-quality photographs of your original work. We do not print jpeg. We do not accept cell phone pictures. Please submit in TIFF or RAW format. An image size of approximately 10×8 is ideal. Good lighting and proper cropping is necessary. If you are unable to document your work, please contact pulp MAG to arrange for assistance. 

pulp MAG is proud to print our published art submissions in colour.


Visual Art

We will consider up to 5 works per submission. Please upload your submission as a zipped folder if submitting multiple images. Each image should be an individual attachment titled “Artist’s Name, Title of Work.” In your cover letter, please also include the following information for each piece:

  • Artist’s Name
  • Title of Piece
  • Original size
  • Medium
  • Year
  • If you would like your piece to be considered for the cover


Graphic Literature

We will consider one submission of up to 6 pages. Each submission should be an individual attachment titled “Writer’s Name, Artist’s Name, Title of Work,” or if the piece was written and designed by the same person, “Artist’s Name, Title of Work.” In the cover letter, please also include the following information for each piece:

  • Artist’s Name
  • Writer’s Name
  • If the Artist and Writer are different, please include two short biographical statements, and the information of both Artist and Writer as outlined in the General Submission Guidelines.
  • Original size
  • Medium
  • Year


HP REVEAL SUBMISSIONS

With the help of HP Reveal, formerly known as Aurasma, we are now accepting video and audio submissions. The app will allow readers to interact with your pieces by scanning a picture in the magazine, prompting a video to display on their device. We will consider short films, spoken performance, music, animation, dance, 3D installations, and performance art. Videos must be well-edited, with clear audio and video. Submission must also include artwork for print (see below categories for details). All published pieces will be cross-posted onto pulpmag.ca. All submitted work must be in the public domain (this includes music), made with the original creator’s permission, or original to the submitter.

Short Film

We will consider any genre of short film, up to 10 minutes long, including the title and all credits. As a separate attachment, please provide us with a poster or a high quality still from the film to include in the print magazine.

Spoken Performance

We will consider submissions of poetry, monologues, stories, stand-up, and recorded theatre up to 5 minutes long. Please include a high quality still or concept art. 

Music

This includes audio, music videos, and live performances. We will consider one high quality recording per submission. When sending in your submission, please ensure you attach album art, concept art/photos, or professional grade performance photos to be included in print. Also include the names of everyone who worked on the project, as well as a their artist statements and information, as outlined in the General Submission Guidelines.

Animation

Any genre is welcome: stop motion, flipbook, Claymation, digital animation, CGI, flash, etc. We accept videos up to 10 minutes long, including the title and all credits. Please attach a poster, still, or concept art with your submission to be shown in print. 

Dance

We will consider any style of dance in the form of professional-grade recording up to 5 minutes long, including a title and all credits. Please state what type of dance you (or your group) is performing in your email, as well as either stills from the performance or concept photos to be shown in print. 

3D Installations/Performance Art

If you have a 3D installation or performance art you want to submit in the form of a video to the magazine, it can be any medium and can be up to 10 minutes long. Please include a photo of the piece to be used in print—stills, concept art, and other artwork with the same conceptual theme are highly recommended.
